How Changing Your Habits Can Change Your Life - March 24, 2023 at 12 Noon ET in partnership with the Dare County Library - Do you want to live a healthier, more successful, and more fulfilling life? Managing Change With Grace Managing change with grace is one of the hardest things to do – and needed now more than ever. This workshop focuses on identifying some of the obvious and less obvious changes we face and providing helpful tools to manage them. These tools include healthy self-care, seeking counseling, habit management, meditation (and other stress relieving modalities), work/ life balance tips, creative outlets, and other resources. Are you a writer, but not sure how to get your words published? Or maybe you want to build or maintain a daily writing practice and aren’t sure where to start. You can do it! This workshop provides tools to develop a thriving writing practice and discusses the personal benefits of pursuing this creative outlet. There will be tips on how to get published by publications and platforms. Also, a high-level overview of the process and steps to publish a book will be shared. Tips and Tricks for Writing Scenes and Dialogue
To keep readers turning the page, you need to create powerful scenes and memorable dialogue. In this workshop, Author Donna Ferris will share the tips and tricks she’s learned about these key story elements including how to use shorthand descriptions, dialogue do’s and don’ts, why characters don’t say what they mean, and when to use summary or detailed dialogue. Are you an outliner or a pantser? If you have no idea what we’re talking about – this workshop is for you. During our time together we will discuss the elements of story including the hero’s (heroine’s) journey, overarching themes, the act structure (and why it matters), common tropes, and the importance of character arcs. A list of resources will be provided. Please bring a favorite novel or memoir to class.

The holidays are a joyful time, but if we’ve experienced major loss, they can be challenging. But you are not alone. Join Author and Yoga Therapist Donna Ferris as she shares tools to navigate the holidays with grace and self-compassion. These tools include finding support, self-care, meditation, building healthy habits, physical activity, journaling, creative pursuits and building connections. Hope you will make this time for you. Donna Y. Ferris is the author of We've Got to Stop Meeting Like This and a speaker on navigating change, grief, second-chance love, writing, and the meaning of success after COVID. She lives in West Chester, Pennsylvania and Duck, North Carolina with her husband and dogs – and spends as much time as possible with her two Musketeers in Pittsburgh (the home of her beloved Steelers). In addition to continuing to work in corporate America, Donna teaches yoga, leads Kripalu retreats and workshops, provides transformation coaching services, and writes (for publications including Elephant Journal and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) as side hustles. She is currently working on an amnesia mystery novel and a non-fiction book about navigating change.
